Emerald Lake Lodge

Introduction:

Charmingly Canadian. Very professional, with a quiet and subtle feel that you are totally at home here. Comfortable, elegant and with a pleasing informality, the lodge exudes a warmth that makes you never want to leave. Fine dining is a highlight to look forward to and wine lovers will be delighted with the cellar. The romantic setting is perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries and Rocky Mountain weddings. Emerald Lake Lodge has a history dating from a grand era when transcontinental railroad pioneers brought the first trains west. Built in 1902 the lodge today lies in Yoho National Park amidst a gentle wilderness setting surrounded by mountains. Timber built, the main lodge features a massive stone fireplace, dining room, quiet reading areas and upstairs the vintage billiards room. Bar originated from a turn of the century Klondike saloon in Dawson City.

 

Location & Getting There:

25 miles west of Lake Louise on Trans Canada Highway. Well positioned for day trips to Banff and Lake Louise. Golden is reached in 45 minutes and a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts where jet boat and hiking routes are accessed.

 

Take the Trans Canada Highway 1 heading West towards Field and Golden BC. The turnoff to Emerald Lake Lodge is located 1 km on the highway past Field, BC. Follow the road for 6 km until you see the lodge.  Note that the lodge is located in Canadian National parks. You must purchase a park pass!

 

Amenities:

Built of timber and featuring a massive stone fireplace, the main Lodge is the focal point containing dining room, quiet reading and sitting areas plus classic billiards room upstairs. The bar features an original backdrop from a turn of the century Klondike saloon in Dawson City.

 

Accommodation:

Deluxe accommodation is in 24 newly built cabin-style buildings positioned along the lake shore. All rooms have private baths, balconies and wood burning fireplaces with complimentary firewood. Amenities include feather duvets and pillows, telephones, in-room coffee makers, hair dryers and alarm clocks. All guest rooms are non-smoking.

Superior rooms have either one queen-size bed, or two double beds with sitting area and fireplace plus balcony. Superior rooms with a king-size bed also have a guaranteed lake view and small refrigerator.

Deluxe rooms: one queen-size bed, spacious sitting area with a double pull out sofa, fireplace and private balcony overlooking the lake.

Executive rooms are available in two configurations: studios or one bedroom suites. Rooms have one queen-size bed, spacious sitting area with double pull out sofa in front of the fireplace. Private wrap around balcony overlooks the lake.

Activities:

With the array of activities and sightseeing available, guests typically spend the day outdoors and return each evening for the fine dining experience. Hiking; numerous trails found locally. The lodge can arrange for guide on request or provide route details and directions.


White Water Rafting on the Kicking Horse River is exhilarating and wet! Jet boat the Columbia River or canoe on tranquil Emerald Lake. Horseback riding is popular, the nearby stables offer trail riding to  explore the way the pioneers did in 1882. Fishing, literally available from your doorstep on Emerald Lake or other recommended fishing spots. Outdoor enthusiasts can also add mountain biking and golf to their vacation
.
 

Cuisine:

With a rightful reputation as one of the finest dining rooms in the Rockies, the menu is diverse and includes dishes featuring smoked, cured or roasted wild game, fresh fruits and vegetables. Prepared by top chefs and served in a charming dining room, the roots of the food go back to earlier railroad days when hearty meals were prepared by Swiss and Austrian mountain guides. After a day’s exploring in the Rockies, dining at Emerald Lake is one of the day’s highlights.  


The wine list is extensive with many award winning Canadian wines plus a large selection of hard to find vintners' reserve wines. The wine cellar received the Wine Spectator “Best of Award of Excellence” in 2004.

 

Travel Tips:

For pure Rocky Mountain enthusiasts’ we recommend combining Purcell Lodge where it’s 7200 ft location is unique. Purcell is reached only by helicopter from Golden. Families will find the accommodation and activities are well suited to all interests and kids will love the area.
