leisurely pace on this 8 day self-drive tour! Start in Victoria, cross Malahat
Pass, and continue to the spectacular coastal
regions near Tofino and Parksville. The warm waters of the Parksville – Qualicum
Beach area and the long white sand beaches of
Pacific Rim National Park on the western coast
of Vancouver Island offer you excellent
opportunities for water and
beach activities.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Victoria
Arrival in Victoria, the provincial capital, on
own. Pick-up your rental car and take the rest
of the day to explore the town. Victoria’s character is an engaging mix of
old and new, British and
Asian,
colonial and New World. High tea still
is served at the Empress Hotel. You can find
delighted teahouses
and a
wax museum, you will see old-fashioned
horse-drawn carriages and splendid formal
gardens. The Asian cultural heritage, which
arrived with the waves of immigrant workers from
across the Pacific Ocean, has brought a
flavourful diversity to Victoria. Stay 2 nights
at a B&B.
Day 2: Victoria
Discover various sites in Victoria, including the Inner Harbor,
Royal BC Museum, Crystal Garden, Thunderbird
Park and
Helmcken House. Enjoy a whale watching cruise
or drive 21 km north of Victoria to Butchart
Gardens, an impressive floral display on
fifty-five acres of land.
Day
3: Victoria - Shawnigan Lake (55km / 1 hr)
Take the scenic Malahat Pass to Shawnigan Lake.
Explore Vancouver Island's vineyards and
wineries.
Overnight at a B&B in Shawnigan Lake.
Day 4:
Shawnigan Lake
Enjoy the day at your leisure in Shawnigan Lake.
Overnight at a B&B in Shawnigan Lake.
Day 5: Shawnigan Lake - Tofino (270km / 4 hrs)
Once again travel the Island Highway to Port
Alberni where you drive across the central
Island Mountains to the remote West Coast and
Tofino.
Overnight at a B&B in
Tofino.
 Day 6: Tofino
Explore the beautiful white sandy beaches, drive
to Long Beach to watch
surfers, go for short or longer hikes, try a
guided kayaking trip and/or undertake a whale
watching tour. In the evening enjoy a delicious
dinner at a great restaurant on the beach.
Overnight at a B&B in
Tofino.
Day 7: Tofino - Parksville/Qualicum Beach (170km /
2.25 hrs)
From Tofino you head across
Vancouver Island to the west. You will drive
through miles of forest area that support Port Alberni's timber industry. Overnight in
Parksville or in Qualicum Beach.
Day 8: Parksville/Qualicum Beach - Victoria (150 km /
2 hrs)
Drive the Island Highway, passing the totem
poles of Duncan and the murals on the buildings
in Chemainus. Your tour ends upon arrival in
Victoria.
