Vancouver Island Explorer

A fascinating destination and with a myriad of attractions you could say Vancouver Island has it all. Contrasts range from young vineyards to the rugged Pacific Rim coastline and from luxury hotels to ocean whale watching trips. We have taken the most interesting highlights of Vancouver Island and packed them into just 7 short days! Of course you can stay longer, take a boat trip, visit another guest lodge or plan a trip to the popular Saltspring Island. So important is the cuisine of Canada’s west that we feel you can’t have just one gourmet trail – there are many and this is a favourite.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Victoria - Arrival
Provincial capital and a great place to start your vacation; here an engaging mix of old and new, British and Asian, colonial and New World blend together. High tea still is served daily at the Empress Hotel while a few blocks away you can discover the fragrances of China. Colourful, charismatic and scenic, everyone loves Victoria. Overnight
Victoria.

Day 2: Victoria – Tofino (316km / 4, 5hrs)
The acclaimed Butchart Gardens are a recommended stop and just 21 km from downtown Victoria. Several of the island’s top vineyards are found in the first sector of today’s drive and offer tasting. The route crosses westward over Vancouver Island’s mountain interior towards Pacific Rim National Park and Tofino. Overnight Tofino.

Day 3: Tofino
Stunningly beautiful coastline with wild white beaches – a surfers paradise. Numerous
activities are at your fingertips today. Included today is a amazing whale watching tour (in zodic). This 2.5 to 3 hour tour you will travel through both protected and open-coast marine waters in the search of whales. Rest of day is at your leisure. Other popular activities are kayaking, beach walks and other boat trips. After a day in the outdoors, it’s good to know some of the best restaurants in BC can be found in Tofino.

Day 4: Tofino - Campbell River (273 km / 4 hrs)
Driving through old growth forest is an interesting highlight on the route, saved from logging it is a reminder of how the island once was. The fertile, agricultural Comox Valley, is in summer full of fresh fruit and vegetable stands catering to travelers. Campbell River is billed as the “Salmon Capital of the World” - so enthusiastic sport fishers will feel quite at home! Overnight Campbell River
If you booked the upgraded program you will stay either at April Point Lodge which is located on Quadra Island. April Point Lodge's sister property Painters Lodge is located just outside of Campbell River and is connected with April Point Lodge / Quadra Island with a short water taxi ride. Guests of April Point Lodge can park their cars at Painters Lodge.

Day 5: Campbell River / Quadra Island
Lots to do; guided salmon fishing charters, explore Quadra Island by bike or scooter, marine & bear wildlife tours plus Ocean rapids tour. Fabulous scenery looking across to Desolation Sound, the waters in summer are occasionally warm enough for swimming. Have fun! Overnight

Day 6: Campbell River – Victoria (273 km / 4 hrs)
Return drive to Victoria allows for several interesting stops en-route and cultural interests in  Duncan.
