Lady Rose Marine Heritage Cruises

Cruise the waters of Canada’s sheltered west coast aboard the heritage vessel, Francis Barkley.  The M.V. Frances Barkley was built in 1958 and launched on November 7 as the M/S Rennesoy in Stavanger, Norway. In March of 1990 the ship's registry was changed from Norwegian to Canadian as was her name which became Frances Barkley.

Canada’s West Coast is a fascinating region of fjords and inlets where small tug boats and supply vessels work the sheltered waters, becoming a lifeline for local industries. Appealing to marine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, few trips are as unique as the Lady Rose. Here is a chance to travel aboard a classic 1930’s vessel and while the ship makes it’s regular supply run – you will discover a rare and memorable side of life on Canada’s West Coast.

M.V. Frances Barkley:

Second vessel in the company, M.V. Frances Barkley was built in 1958 and launched in Stavanger, Norway. Originally commissioned for use in the Norwegian ferry fleet, the 128 foot vessel arrived on Canada’s west coast in 1990. Now operating in sheltered coastal waters, carrying up to 200 passengers and 100 tons of cargo, the Frances Barkley spends her summers on the Port Alberni to Ucluelet/Broken Group Islands run.

Exclusive charters:

MV Frances Barkley is also available for private coastal charters during the spring, fall and winter.

Travel Tips:

Recommend adding The M.V. Frances Barkley to any Vancouver Island itinerary. Usually requires extra night accommodation. Best suggestion Tigh Na Mara Resort. Passenger should bring a warm sweater, rain jacket or windbreaker and wear sensible shoes. It may be cool on the water. These are working Packet Freighters and you will be most comfortable if you dress accordingly. Don't forget your binoculars and camera.

The M.V. Frances Barkley is a passenger and freight vessel. Normally assigned service on the  Ucluelet and Broken Group Islands route she also provides service on the Bamfield route. These are working freight vessels and may occasionally switch routes.

All trips depart from Port Alberni.
